Following reports that Olly Murs and Caroline Flack have quit The X Factor, the show is in need of at least one new presenter. But Ant and Dec have said there is "not a chance" they will sign up for the ITV singing show.

The Geordie pair, who are friends with head honcho and producer Simon Cowell, said they like to see variety in a show.

"We've done Britain's Got Talent and we work well with Simon and have done for years," Ant told Mirror Online. "We did the original Pop Idol, so I don't think we could go back to do a singing show."

Ant and Dec have won the NTA Best Presenter award 15 years in a row

"On Britain's Got Talent we get that," he added. "But we get everything – magicians, jugglers, dogs. Once you've seen all that variety, I'm not sure we could do just singers again."

Ant and Dec are very much part of the ITV family and have presented Saturday Night Takeaway, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, Red or Black?, Push the Button and Text Santa over the years.

The double act will also return on Wednesday night to host the 2016 Brit Awards for a second year in a row.

Much loved by the public, Ant and Dec, whose full names are Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, have been awarded the Most Popular TV Presenter(s) at the NTAs for 15 consecutive years.

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack have stepped down from their X Factor presenting duties

Caroline and Olly, who took over from Dermot O'Leary, confirmed on Monday that they are stepping down from their X Factor presenting duties. Olly expressed his wish to focus on his music career, while Caroline said that she was looking forward to joining other ITV projects.

"I have had a brilliant time working on The X Factor over the last few years, and hosting the main show was just fantastic, I made some amazing friends," said Caroline in a statement. "I'm looking forward to carrying on working with the team over at ITV."
