She's back! Sarah Michelle Gellar has officially signed up to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil for a TV remake of her hit 1999 movie Cruel Intentions. The actress took to Instagram to reveal the news this week, sharing a photo of herself when she first played the character, paired with a recent one of her ready to film the reboot."#throwbackthursday (a bit early in Los Angeles) this picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions," she captioned the photographs. "It’s me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions.

"That's right 'everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way' #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv," she added.Sarah starred in the original movie alongside Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and Selma Blair. The new TV series will pick up where the film left off, focusing on teenager Bash Casey (Taylor John Swift), the son of the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan) and Annette Hargrove (Reese).Fans won't be surprised to learn that Sarah’s character is up to her old scheming ways, and tries her best to manipulate and control Bash.

According to Variety, Kathryn – described as "smart, sexy, cruel, charismatic and powerful" – is now married to the wealthy Pascal Barrett and spearheads a local youth rehabilitation movement, as well as being involved in a local private school. She is "privately shaken by the arrival of Sebastian's son, Bash, and the reappearance in her life of the girl she wronged years ago, Annette".It's not thought that either Reese or Ryan will be appearing in the TV remake, although the pilot is being directed by Roger Kumble, the original writer and director of Cruel Intentions.
