Harrison Ford is set to star in a fifth Indiana Jones film

Steven has overseen all the previous Indiana Jones films; he first worked with Harrison on Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom followed in 1984, with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade released in 1989, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom on the Crystal Skull hitting screens in 2008. The four films have brought in nearly $2billion at the global box office.Walk Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said of the news: "Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019."It's rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven."

Harrison, who will be 76 when the new film is in cinemas, recently enjoyed success with another revival of a hit franchise: Star Wars. The huge box office takings for The Force Awakens saw the star return to the top of the list of highest-grossing actors last year.Last year, Steven hinted that a fifth Indiana Jones film was in the works, as he joked about how both Tom Hanks and Harrison has been in four of his films. "We've gotta figure this out because now Tom is tied with Harrison Ford," the director said. "Harrison and I did four movies, Tom and I have done four movies. "Now I'll probably do an Indy Five with Harrison. It'll be five for Harrison, four for Tom… [Then] I've got to make another one with Tom, so that will be five for Tom, five for Harrison. And I think I'm going to leapfrog that way for the rest of my career. With Daniel Day-Lewis in everything else!"
