Jenna Coleman dons regal attire as she prepares to be crowned Queen in the first teaser clip from upcoming ITV drama Victoria. The Doctor Who star plays Queen Victoria in the major eight-part drama, which will air later this year.

"I know that I am young, but I am ready for the great responsibility that lies before me," she says in the short clip, which shows the 29-year-old donning a crown and gown as she arrives for her coronation.

The 13-second clip is the first glimpse of Jenna in action as the former monarch, and comes five months after the first photo of the actress in character was released.

The eight-part drama follows the early life of the royal, from when she ascended the throne at the tender age of 18 through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Victoria went on to rule for 63 years and was the longest-serving monarch until she was overtaken by the Queen on 9 September 2015.

Jenna, who has starred in Death Comes to Pemberley and Dancing on the Edge, will be joined by Rufus Sewell who plays Lord Melbourne, Victoria's first prime minister. At the time, the pair immediately clicked and their intimate friendship became a popular source of gossip that threatened to destabilise the government – angering both Tory and Whigs alike.

The series will open with a 90-minute episode, followed by seven one-hour episodes, brought to screen from the same producers of Poldark.

"I am delighted to be cast as Queen Victoria in this ambitious drama of her life," Jenna said when her role in the drama was announced last year. "She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can't wait to tell her story."
