Chris Hemsworth might be the leading man in action fantasy film The Huntsman: Winter's War, but he was full of praise for the women of the movie who stole the show: his female co-stars, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron and Jessica Chastain.

Speaking at a press conference, the Thor actor chatted about his admiration towards the strong female leads in the film. He said: "It was fascinating to watch the girls and their different styles. All of them are an absolute force to be reckoned with so it was good fun."

The father-of-three also revealed how Jessica Chastain was at the top of his list to play female protagonist 'The Warrior' Sara, and that her one demand for the film was that her character had to be amazing.

Chris previously played the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman alongside Kristen Stewart

He said: "I saw her at the Golden Globes and was like 'did you get the script?' and she was like 'yeah, do I get to kick arse?' and I said 'we'll make sure' and she does!"

Chris's co-star Emily, who plays the Ice Queen, was also passionate about the number of female leads in the movie, and shared that her decision to take the role was based on their strength and diversity.

"I was very attracted to that there were three very powerful female roles in the film, which is very rare," Emily said.

"Not only to have three women in a film but to also just to have such power house roles that were complicated and different and all… were really layered and well written. There's just so many girls in this film and that was really enticing for all of us," she continued.

Chris described his female co-stars as "fascinating to watch"

The star, who is currently pregnant with her second child, also couldn't help but joke about the similarities drawn between her portrayal of the wicked Ice Queen in The Huntsman and Queen Elsa from Frozen. When asked if she watched the Disney film to prepare for the role, she joked: "I watched Frozen a hundred times, very disappointed there's not a song in this!

"It was not really a reference point, it was actually a cause of 'oh god I'm going to be asked a lot of Frozen questions, how boring.'"

The Huntsman: Winter's War hits cinemas in the UK on 22 April.
