Felicity Jones stars in trailer for new Star Wars film, Rogue One

April 7, 2016

Felicity Jones is the latest heroine from a galaxy far, far away as she stars in the new trailer for the Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Oscar-nominated actress will play Jyn Erso, a rebel fighter.

The teaser gave fans a first glimpse at an entirely new story, in which Felicity's character Jyn is a "reckless, aggressive and undisciplined" who has been alone since the age of fifteen.

Rogue One will be set before the events of the original Star Wars film, A New Hope, but is separate from the main saga with an entirely new cast. The plot focuses on Felicity's character Jyn and a group of rebel fighters as they plan to steal plans for A New Hope's deadly weapon, the Death Star.

Though lacking in Jedi Knights, Han Solo or Chewbacca, the trailer is jam packed full of classic Star Wars villains and weapons, along with a mysterious new villain.

Fans flocked to Twitter to excitedly discuss the trailer, with one user writing: "Shall we all start a petition for Disney to release #RogueOne now? I can't wait until December," while another wrote: "Take. My. Money. #RogueOne."

The sci-fi film, which also stars Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelson and Elysium actor Diego Luna will be released by Disney this December, almost a year after Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens was released to enormous commercial and critical success.

Episode VIII is currently in production, and star John Boyega has been hinting about the new movie. John told Vogue that Episode VIII will be: "much darker" and that his character Finn will have a more demanding role. He said "[it] will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more."
