Melissa McCarthy has confirmed that she will be returning to the Gilmore Girls. The 45-year-old joined Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show to talk about reprising her role as fan favourite Sookie, Lorelai's quirky best friend.
Announcing the news that she would be returning to the show's revival to a cheering audience, the Bridesmaids star said: "It is really exciting. There has been something that I have been asked about so, so many times and it hasn’t worked out.
"It is really exciting." Melissa confirmed she is returning to Gilmore Girls
"They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls which is a show which was near and dear to my heart for four years and we could not get those schedules to work. And there was a whole thing. And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I’m gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing."
Melissa denied reports that she would be involved in the series revival back in March. In an interview with E!, she said: "I don't think I am. I didn't actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was."

She continued to tell Ellen how much she was looking forward to working with her old friends: "I’m very happy to go back to Stars Hollow. Oh My Gosh there’s me and Lauren. I’m just really excited about that. So it just happened and I got asked a lot about it and as of not even two hours ago it’s happening."
The series, which follows single mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) and their lives in the town of Stars Hollow will be returning to Netflix with four 90-minute episodes, with the series titled Gilmore Girls: Seasons.
