Two years after the tragic death of wife Hayley, Roy Cropper is set to remarry after finding new happiness with Cathy Matthews. Coronation Street fans were left devastated in 2014 when Hayley took her own life after a battle with pancreatic cancer.But things are finally looking up for Roy, played by David Neilson, and it's been confirmed Cathy will propose to the café owner – and he'll accept her offer!A source told the Mirror: "Roy had to deal with the death of Hayley and had very tough and emotional storylines for months so writers felt he needed a happier 2016. He and Cathy have been getting on brilliantly and so she decides to take things to the next level by getting down on one knee."

Unsurprisingly Roy is not expecting the proposal but, after some convincing, he eventually realises he does want to marry Cathy.
The insider continued: "It is a bit of a shock to Roy and some of the others on the street, but viewers will be pleased to see him have some happiness back in his life. He is a much-loved Corrie character and although no dates have been set, it looks odds-on that this will be another big soap wedding. "Transsexual character Hayley – portrayed by Julie Hedsmondhalgh for 15 years – decided to end her own life rather than die from cancer. At the time the scenes sparked debate, as Roy assisted Hayley with her wishes.

MP Nadine Dorries tweeted: "No everyone has a loving Roy. For many people the NoK (next of kin) is a hospital, care home or a similar budget constrained autonomous body #scary. "A reason why assisted suicide is unlikely to ever be fully legal. The law is there to protect the vulnerable from prey."

This will be Roy's third time down the aisle. In 2003 he was forced to marry scheming super-villain Tracy Barlow when he and Hayley were trying to adopt a child.
