With just over a month to go until Orange is the New Black season four debuts on Netflix, our excitement has reached peak levels – and the official trailer doesn't disappoint. The clip was released on YouTube this week, and shows that things at Litchfield penitentiary are about to get much darker.

Everything has changed: there's more CO's, 100 new inmates and, if you thought life was bad in the women's prison before, you haven't seen anything yet. Piper Chapman is continuing her journey to become Litchfield's very own Mafia boss but, if the trailer is anything to go by, it appears this season won't revolve around her as much, which may come as a relief to some fans.

In the two minutes and 20 seconds, we see things aren't getting any better for Red, played by Kate Mulgrew, and Laverne Cox's Sophia is still in the SHU, despite Caputo's best efforts for justice.

The prison manager has much bigger things on his mind in the new season. It's now a for-profit organisation, meaning Caputo has got his work cut out keeping it afloat, which is why he's drafted in Taystee, played by Danielle Brooks, as his personal assistant.

And it looks like the overcrowded prison will mean more drama for the women, as a SWAT team makes an appearance in the teaser, and Crazy Eyes, played by Uzo Abdula, can be seen having an episode in a hospital bed.

But it's not all doom and gloom. The women are still sharing their hilarious pearls of wisdom, Taystee is struggling to get to grips with Caputo's office – with amazing results – and Dascha Polanco's Daya is finally baby-bump free and back to throwing some serious shade all over the prison.

Orange is the New Black returns to Netflix on 17 June – and we can't wait! Will you be tuning in? Let us know in the comments section below.
