A source revealed to The Sun that the 45-year-old would be making a small cameo appearance, and that the chance to appear in the sci-fi series was "a dream come true". They said: "Gary is a huge Star Wars fan so this is a dream come true. The process has been kept top secret, as he doesn’t want anybody to find out.

Gary will be appearing as a Stormtrooper in the next Star Wars film

"His connections in the film industry got him the part."

The series is gaining a host of celebrities performing cameo roles, including Tom Hardy and Daniel Craig, who secretly played a Stormtrooper who has his mind controlled by Daisy Ridley's Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Furthermore, it was reported that Prince William and Prince Harry will also be appearing in the next instalment, as the pair allegedly filmed cameos playing the evil First Order's foot soldiers while touring the set at Pinewood Studios in April, where they met the cast, had a lightsaber duel where Prince Harry jokily complained about being giving the red lightsaber, asking "Why do I always have to be the baddy?", while Prince William was unable to resist giving Chewbacca a hug.

The Princes revealed that they were huge fans of Star Wars while visiting the set, with Prince William labelling himself "a total geek" when it came to the series.

Although the next film is yet to release a title and its filming is being kept strictly under wraps, Mark Hamill shared a snap of himself arriving to begin filming scenes in Ireland in early May, and was reportedly joined by co-stars Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver.
