Blue boyband member Duncan James joins cast of Hollyoaks

Duncan James has revealed that he has joined the cast of Hollyoaks as "good guy" character Ryan, who moves into the village.

In a statement, the singer said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Hollyoaks team! I'm looking forward to working with the fantastic on and off screen talent on the show and bringing th character of Ryan to life.

"Ryan is a good guy in a committed relationship who will move into the village. He is a grounded family man with principles and integrity but who will fight tooth and nail for what he believes in."

Duncan will be playing Ryan in Hollyoaks

The star also posted Twitter and Instagram about the good news, writing on Instagram: "Excited to announce I will be playing the part of "ryan" in @hollyoaksofficial this summer. A new chapter in my life and a new start living out of London for the first time in donkeys years. Excited to start filming after my run in @priscillamusical."

Fans were quick to congratulation Duncan on the news, with one writing: "So happy to see your dream finally turning into reality," while another joked: "I'll have to start watching hollyoaks now!!!!"

Duncan is currently a member of the band Blue 

Although Blue are still touring together and released their fifth studio album just last year, Duncan's career has been mainly in theatre since the band's hiatus between 2005-2009 including roles in Chicago and Legally Blonde, with his most recent part as main character Tick in the musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The star has appeared on television before, playing Dan Coleman in The Bill, but Hollyoaks will be his first regular role on the silver screen.
