Guess which celebrity nearly got Angelina Jolie's role in Mr and Mrs Smith

July 22, 2016

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, beginning their epic love story which has resulted in an 11-year relationship, with the couple eventually marrying in 2015. However, all this could have been completely different according to Gwen Stefani, as she revealed that she "almost" got Angelina's part of Jane Smith in the hit action film.

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Gwen revealed that she was almost given the part of Brad Pitt's onscreen wife Jane who pretends to have a dull office job while actually leading a double life as an assassin, unbeknownst to her husband who also happens to be an assassin.

Gwen revealed she was almost given Angelina's part

She said: "I feel like I almost got it. I went to a bunch [of auditions]. It was between me and Angelina Jolie, and I'm like, 'Oh great. I got a shot here. The whole acting thing really feels like something I could do."

Although the Don't Speak singer didn't have a lot of previous experience in acting, she did have a role acting alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2004 film The Aviator, and has starred in several cameo roles as herself in films and TV shows including Gossip Girl, Dawson's Creek and Zoolander.

"Whenever I've done it, whenever I had moments where it works, it's just like performing. You hit a moment. And that’s what movies are: a series of moments."

She revealed that she wasn't too disappointed when she eventually wasn't offered the role, saying: "[It was] very competitive and I wanted to do it, but I wanted to do music more."

The star is currently promoting her latest album, This Is What Truth Feels Like, and joined James Cordon for Carpool Karaoke where the pair sang along to Gwen's hits, with a little help from George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
