Good news Coronation Street fans, Peter Barlow is making a return to Weatherfield. The much-loved character - played by Chris Gascoyne – will return to the cobbles later this year, the show's producer Kate Oates has confirmed.
Speaking at a Coronation Street press conference on Friday, Kate revealed her plans to reunite the Barlow family by bringing back not just Peter, but his nephew Adam and half-brother Daniel too.
Peter Barlow is confirmed to return to Coronation Street
"One of the things I am most excited about and something I consider a real privilege is that I am lucky enough to work on the longest-running soap," Kate said. "One of the longest-running families on that soap is the Barlows and why would you not want to strengthen that family?
"I love the idea of Ken as the head of the family which has Tracy, Simon and Amy. I am excited to bring Peter back to the show. I am delighted to meet Daniel Osborne, who is his child with Denise and I am excited to bring back Adam, who is Mike Baldwin's son and Ken's grandson."
She continued: "I think that strong family dynasty – the first family on the soap, as it were – here, big, strong and sending ripples through the street, is really exciting and I am really looking forward to seeing that."
The character was last seen ahead of Deirdre Barlow's funeral in 2015
Peter left the show in 2014, making a brief return to Weatherfield around the time of Deirdre Barlow's funeral in 2015.
The character is tipped to return with a secret, and when an event forces him to stick around in Weatherfield, it is unclear what the future holds for him. However it is likely he could become involved once again with his ex-partner Leanne, who is going through a monumental life change of her own after discovering that she is expecting a baby following an ill judged one night stand with a friend – the identity of whom is set to be revealed on Friday.
We can't wait to see how it all unfolds!
