The minute-long trailer for the eight part drama, which will air in Autumn this year, gives an insight into the trials and tribulations of the Queen following her accession to the throne aged just 18, as she goes from afraid to confident of her responsibilities, telling her government officials: "I know that I am young. But I am ready."

The trailer also depicted Victoria's occasionally rocky relationship with the Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne (played by Rufus Sewell), while others doubt her ability to rule, as well as a glimpse of Queen Victoria's courtship and marriage to Prince Albert (played by Tom Hughes).

The star's lavish costumes and hairstyles throughout the trailer give her a striking resemblance to a young Queen Victoria, from her traditional black dresses to her spectacular coronation gowns. Fans have been quick to praise Jenna's performance in the trailer, with one tweeting: "I just want to spend the whole day watching the Victoria trailer honestly it's just perfect," while another wrote: "Can't wait for 'Victoria' to come to ITV! Jenna Coleman will be an amazing queen!"

Queen Victoria is Jenna Coleman's first starring role since exiting Doctor Who after a three-year stint as the Doctor's companion, Clara Oswold. Speaking about her new role, the 30-year-old told WhatsOnTv: "I'm delighted to be cast as the young Queen Victoria in this ambitious drama about her life. Victoria is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman. I can't wait to tell her story!"
