New Bridget Jones novel to be published

August 4, 2016

Helen Fielding has announced plans to release her fourth Bridget Jones novel entitled Bridget Jones's Baby: The Diaries.

According to The Bookseller, the new book will be based on Helen's columns from the Independent about the clumsy yet loveable Londoner, will follow Bridget's "somewhat bumpy journey into motherhood," and will be released around Christmas this year.

This will be Helen's fourth Bridget Jones novel

The novel will take place during Bridget's pregnancy which will be "full of cheesy potatoes, outlandish advice from Drunken Singletons and Smug Mothers, chaos at scans and childbirth classes, high jinks and romance, joy and despair," and will follow the September 16 release of the third Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones's Baby.

Speaking about the upcoming release of her new novel, the bestselling author said: "At heart Bridget Jones is about the gap between how we all feel we're expected to be and how we actually are and – as Bridget discovers with her somewhat bumpy pregnancy - how we expect life to turn out and how it actually does. I'm excited to see Bridget's world on the big screen again, and delighted to be published by Jonathan Cape."

Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey will both play Bridget Jones's love interests in the film

The managing director of Jonathan Cape, who plans to publish the fourth novel, said: "We couldn't be more thrilled to be able to announce that a new Bridget Jones adventure will shortly enter the world. For her millions of fans, Bridget is family and we look forward to welcoming Baby Jones into the fold."

Similarly to the film, Bridget will also be unsure about the identity of the father in the novel, though it is not yet clear whether the candidates will be Mark Darcy and Jack Qwant as it is in the upcoming film, who will be played by Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey respectively.
