Michelle Dockery says Downton 'may not be over yet'

August 15, 2016

Michelle Dockery is giving fans a fresh dose of hope. The actress has hinted that viewers may not have seen the last of Downton Abbey, the hit period drama that came to an end on Christmas Day last year.

When asked about the possibility of a movie, Michelle, who played Lady Mary Crawley, said: "I think there is potential for a film. That is something I would wholeheartedly consider, so we will see. It may not be over yet."

The 34-year-old actress added to The Telegraph: "The thing that I miss the most are my cast members. But we are all still very close."

As Downton was drawing to a close last year, Michelle was sadly dealing with the loss of her fiancé John Dineen, who died of cancer at the age of 34.

She had her nearest and dearest to lean on – "Friends and family see you through the most difficult times," she said – but acting, too, also served as a "release".

Michelle was offered the part of Letty Dobesh, a drug-abusing thief and con artist, in the new drama series Good Behaviour, which will air on TNT later this year.

"It was very fortunate for me that this came along at the right time," said Michelle. "It wasn't a conscious decision to do something so totally different from Lady Mary but I was completely hooked on the script from the first page and I loved the complexity of the character.

"I convinced them I could do an American accent and I said a few things to them over the phone in the accent, but I had some coaching too."

The small-screen star added: "Downton Abbey was an incredible journey for six years and we were very sad to say goodbye, but it was the right time and it was very exciting actually leaving and going on to something like this and a whole new path in my career."
