Lowe and behold – Strictly announce eighth celebrity contestant

The eighth celebrity contestant has been added to the Strictly Come Dancing line-up and it's... Daisy Lowe! The fashion model, who is the 27-year-old daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale, said she "jumped" at the chance to join the show.

In a statement released by the BBC, Daisy said: "I am used to being on the catwalk and campaigns of major fashion brands with lots of eyes on me but this is completely different from anything I have ever done before!

"My family and friends and I adore Strictly, so when the chance came up to take part – I jumped at it! I am itching to get started and am so looking forward to learning a new skill."

Daisy shared a photo on Instagram, writing: "Cats out the bag... It's really happening! Ahhhhhh dance shoes at the ready beauty."

She joins Ed Balls, Will Young, Laura Whitmore, Ore Oduba, Melvin Odoom, Louise Redknapp and Danny Mac, who have all been announced as contestants.

"Yes! My beautiful mate @daisylowe joins the #bbcstrictly16 family," wrote presenter Laura on Twitter.

Blogger Tanya Burr also tweeted: "Omg this is so exciting!! I can't wait to watch you! Xxx."

The fashion model's friend Tanya Burr tweeted: "I can't wait to watch you!"

Daisy, who was discovered at the age of 15, has starred in major fashion campaigns for some of the biggest labels in the world including Marc by Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and DKNY.

She continues to appear in commercial advertising campaigns and at fashion shows across the globe.

Outside of modelling, Daisy has many accomplishments include acting in feature and independent films, appearing in music videos. She is also an author of a sweet treat cookery book.
