JK Rowling leads Harry Potter fans in #BackToHogwarts tweets

September 1, 2016

1 September marks the day in the Harry Potter universe where the characters head off for another year at Hogwarts, and fans of the book series, Kings Cross station and JK Rowling herself have all joined in to mark the literary occasion.

JK Rowling paid tribute to the day by tweeting: "If you're at King's Cross, the Potter, Granger-Weasley and Malfoy families are there too. Albus Severus starts school today. #19YearsLater." She then corrected the dates, writing: "I got the year wrong: blame #CursedChild! In my head it's already 19 years later! #BackToHogwarts."

Fans have been tweeting about the day

Others tweeted snaps of a departures list supposedly from Kings Cross station (where the train to Hogwarts famously departs from) in which they included Hogwarts as a destination and captioned the listing: "Wizards and witches only."

Fans of the boy wizard joked about trying to get to the magical school themselves, with one writing: "I don't care if I never got a letter, I'm still going to try and run through platform 9 ¾," while another wrote: "When it's 1st of September but you're not going #BackToHogwarts because you STILL haven't got your acceptance letter."

The special day comes shortly after the news that Jo's new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, could be turned into a film trilogy.

JK Rowling's play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, may be turned into a play

According to New York Daily News, Warner Bros are discussing turning the popular play into three movies with Daniel Radcliffe reprising his role as the Boy Who Lived. A source revealed: "Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry.

"He doesn't need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading."

Fans have had mixed reactions to the news, with one writing: "jkr: #cursedchild can ONLY work as a play. jkr: but we should still release it as a script book. jkr: ...but what if we made it a film trilogy," while another wrote: "I would love to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on the big screen. Would be nostalgic. Only concern is Alan Rickman not doing Snape."
