X Factor thrown into chaos with new 'Wall of Songs' feature

September 18, 2016

The X Factor was plunged into chaos on Sunday during the show's new segment 'Wall of Songs,' which saw the contestants who were lucky enough to have gotten through to the boot camp stage battle it out to select their ideal song.

The contestants were put at one end of the room, and had to race to the wall to select which song they would most like to perform for the judges, while presenter Dermot O'Leary oversaw the hilarious proceedings.

Anticipating the imminent chaos, the 43-year-old said: "this is absolutely going to be carnage. I'm worried about that wall!" Following the song of a foghorn,  Dermot couldn't help but laugh as the contestants charged torwards to the wall.

"Oh my word! It's still standing!" he laughed.

The presenter then chatted to contestants who had managed to grab their favourite son.

"We got the golden ticket!" while holding a sign which read Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop. Another contestant, who had selected Coldplay's Fix You added: "It's so important to choose a song you're happy with. That's the one I knew so I just grabbed it!"

Dermot predicted the stage would be "carnage"

However, not all contestants were too pleased with their choice, and began swapping their initial choice with other people. Dermot joked: "There's a sort of black market trade going on now." He then began to help the contestants out, shouting: "there's a Taylor Swift here!" He also sang snippets of songs for those who weren't familiar with their choice of songs, showing off his singing voice on the show for the first time.

This series of the hit singing competition has not been without its share of drama so far, as contestant Kirsty Murphy stormed into the Judge's Room on Saturday's episode after being told she wasn't able to audition.

Sharon Osbourne revealed she was "frightened" by the hopeful, saying: "When she first came in I was a bit frightened actually. She walked in and came right over to the desk and I was thinking, 'Oh my god, alert, alert!'. But she was ballsy! It takes a lot to do that."
