Ruby Tandoh hits out at Paul Hollywood over Great British Bake Off move

September 23, 2016

Great British Bake Off runner-up Ruby Tandoh has made her thoughts about Paul Hollywood's decision to move to Channel 4 very clear! The 24-year-old took to Twitter on Thursday to share her opinion on Paul's announcement in a series of messages, which concluded: "I will be told off for this."

Paul confirmed on Thursday that he would be moving with the show, despite Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins all choosing to step down out of loyalty to the BBC. In a statement, the 50-year-old said the show has "been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn't turn my back on all that – the bakers themselves, the bakes, the team that makes it, and of course the tent, the bunting, and who could forget... the squirrels".

But his decision hasn't gone down well with some fans – including Ruby.

"Ahhhhhhhh a peacocking manchild lingering wherever the money is," she wrote. "I am shocked. This from a man who turned up to work revving a rental Lamborghini. Or was it a Ferrari. I don't remember, the air was thick w testosterone.

"Call me ishmael. My child, it was a dark time: shirts tucked into bootcut jeans and the season's first dusting of spray tan on the ground…

"We locked in battle with a mythic beast, both bright white and mahogany, man and baby, ego and terrible, terrible fragility all at once.

"I will be told off for this. I did it all for you my friends."

Paul and Mary announced their individual GBBO decisions within just a few minutes of each another on Thursday. Mary, 81, confirmed that she would be leaving the show to stay with the BBC "out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one".

Similarly GBBO hosts Mel and Sue confirmed earlier this month they too would be stepping down, instead of "going with the dough".

"We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home," they said in a joint statement.

"The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak.

"We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps. We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."
