October 2, 2016

The second week of the Strictly Come Dancing saw Ed Balls and his partner Katya Jones receive a standing ovation after dancing the Charleston.

The dance hall erupted into applause after the couple's cowboy-themed dance, with presenter Tess Daly saying: "Ed, look at the room! They loved it! I love that you came over it and went 'boom!'"

The judges had a mixed reaction to the dance, with the notoriously harsh Craig Revel Horwood saying: "That's a sight I don't think I ever wish to see again…sadly, it did have an air of desperation about it as well." The cheeky ex-politician responded by blowing the judge a kiss.

However, Darcey Bussell said: "Well done…you stayed in sync all the way through I was not expecting that! You have worked so hard I can see." "You came out with enthusiasm," Len Goodman added. "You got stuck in…look people aren't stupid and you got a standing ovation because it was so much fun!"

Louise danced a "stunning" Viennese Waltz

Fans were quick to praise the lively personality, including Channel 4 news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who wrote: "I don't watch #Strictly (#xfactor household) but I just watched @edballs and OH MY GOD. I might just be converted as long as he's in it."

"Our ability to love an underdog and not take stuff seriously..probably what I love about country the most. #edballs #Strictly #voteEd," another added.

The leaderboard so far shows Louise and Danny in tied first place

While Ed remained at the bottom of the leaderboard after receiving 23 points for his lively performance, Louise Redknapp and Danny Mac are currently neck and neck at the top of the scoreboard after both achieving 32 points for their Viennese Waltzes.

Darcey praised Louise's performance in particular, saying: "Lyrical arms filled out the beat of the music, stunning."
