James Corden had a few close shaves as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May took it in turns to manically drive him around a racetrack.

The chat show host was filming a segment for his hugely popular The Late, Late Show when he decided to pit the three presenters against each other.

Jeremy, Richard and James had to drive the comedian around a course in the Mojave Desert while the former Gavin & Stacey star fired questions at them. For each one they got wrong, an extra second was added to their lap time.

Jeremy, who was the first up, was faced with a barrage of general knowledge and mathematical questions.

"Do you miss Top Gear?" James slipped in.

"Oh, ask me about Egypt and politics," laughed Jeremy. "Trump or Clinton?" asked James.

"Oh gosh, I think it'll be a combination," said Jeremy.

"Which character from Sex and the City are you?" asked James. "Mr Big!" shouted Jeremy as the engine roared.

James, the notoriously slowest driver of the three, was the second to compete.

"Soup or salad? What type of animal is Bambi? Would you rather be attacked by a thousand chicken-sized camels, or one camel-sized chicken? What becomes of the broken-hearted?" he was asked.

Richard was then last to compete. "Clarkson or May?" James asked as the pair whipped around the racetrack. "Death!" shouted Richard. "Every time, death, I take death!"

"Do you know, this is the first racetrack I've ever driven at without crashing?" said Richard as they passed the finishing line.
