BBC replace Great British Bake Off with new Big Family Cooking Challenge

The BBC have announced a brand new show, just weeks after Channel 4 confirmed they will be taking over the production of The Great British Bake Off.

On Thursday, the BBC revealed they are developing new cookery series The Big Family Cooking Challenge, which is already in pre-production and is due to air in summer 2017.

The show, which has been commissioned from Voltage TV, will see family teams of passionate amateurs battle it out for the chance to be crowned the nation's best home cooks.

Donna Clark, Acting Head of Formats and Features at the BBC, said in a statement: "I'm thrilled to be taking food competitions in a different direction. A passion for food starts in the family kitchen and this format will take us into homes up and down the country where we'll meet Britain's most passionate and exciting families of cooks."

Voltage Chief Executive Sanjay Singhal added: "Our ambition is to create a feel good show full of character and warmth with authentic home cooking at its heart."

The news comes soon after it was revealed the Great British Bake Off will move to Channel 4 next year

The news comes soon after it was announced that the Great British Bake Off will move to Channel 4 next year. Stars Mary Berry, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc announced that they would remain with the BBC, while Paul Hollywood will continue to judge the show.

Since the announcement, many celebrities have been linked to replace the hosts and Mary. A spokesperson for Channel 4 recently revealed that they have yet to approach anyone about the presenting roles, saying: "We are taking our time to find the right presenters and judges for Bake Off. We have not approached anyone about the roles."
