Lando Calrissian is one of the biggest characters in the original Star Wars trilogy. As the charismatic close friend of Han Solo who knew him back in his smuggling days, it was clear that Lando would be one of the few characters most certainly appearing in the upcoming Han Solo prequel.
It has now been announced that Donald Glover, who is best known for his role as Troy in the American comedy Community, will be taking over the role from Billy Dee Williams to portray a younger version of the iconic character in the film, which is scheduled to be released in 2018.

The exciting news was announced by Lucasfilm on Friday, with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller saying: "We're so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us.
"These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we'd like to publicly apologise to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."

Donald will be joining Alden Ehrenreich, who will be taking over one of Harrison Ford's most famous roles as Han Solo, a smuggler who joins the Rebel Alliance after meeting Luke Skywalker and falling in love with Princess Leia.
Fans have expressed their delighted with the announcement, with one tweeting: "Perfect Casting! Donald Glover cast as Young Lando in upcoming Han Solo Star Wars movie."
"This is awesome!! Can't wait," another added.
Donald's Community co-star Yvette Nicole Brown also tweeted her congratulations, writing: "Listen, I am FAN-girling like a proper #StarWars nerd right now! CONGRATS, dear friend! #DonaldGlover is #Lando!"
