Although it has been reported that several contestants on Strictly Come Dancing have been taken ill with a mysterious bug in the past week, several stars of the hit BBC show have come forward to deny the rumours before tonight's episode.

The professional dancers who were reported to have been taken ill with flu-like symptoms included Anton du Beke, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec. However, Neil tweeted to deny the reports, joking: "I might be very very pale but trust me I'm not ill at all."

Katya tweeted a snap in anticipation of tonight's episode

Katye also looked the picture of health in a selfie snap of herself with her celebrity dance partner Ed Balls, which she shared to her Twitter followers writing: "Dress run done & went really smooth! Well, good job as we're doing American Smooth! Will '...the way to Amarillo' be our way to higher scores?"

The professional dancer did confirm that she had lost her voice earlier in the week but took to Twitter to reassure fans she was doing well, writing: "Thanks every1 for ur concerns. I feel fine, I've got weak vocal cords & we've been working extremely hard this week in training. #strictly."

Brendan has confirmed he will not be appearing in tonight's episode due to illness

However, Brendan Cole, who is partnered with Anastacia on the show, has revealed that he will not be performing this weekend after contracting a chest infection. In a statement posted to his website, he wrote: "Annoyingly, I'm still not 100 percent (although I do feel much better compared to how I felt earlier in the week).

"So I am to continue resting for a couple more days in the hope I am fighting fit ready for Monday to gear up for next week's Halloween show (my favourite of the series)."
