SPOILER ALERT!

It has been reported that Coronation Street's Maria Connor (played by Samia Ghadie) will be jailed for a year after Caz Hammond (played by Rhea Bailey) faked her own death and so that Maria would take the fall for the murder, landing her in prison. However, it will be her sham marriage to Pablo Duarte so he can get a visa that will keep her there.

A source told The Sun: "Maria will be handed a 12-month stretch but she'll be back on the cobbles in the new year because of good behaviour. The scene is set to shock fans as they know she didn't murder Caz but won't see the sham marriage sentence coming. It will be one of the most shocking court storylines in the soap's history and likened to Deirdre Barlow's wrongful conviction [for fraud in 1998]."

Maria will be accused of murdering Caz

The hairdresser will be framed for the murder after Caz plants blood in her flat and stained hairdressing scissors in her bag. However, it is expected that the evil character will be forced into revealing that she is still alive, helping Maria's case. The source continued to reveal that Samia would continue to film scenes, saying: "Usually these plots are arranged to give actors a break but Samia will be seen from time to time in jail and will do some filming."

She will also be landed in trouble after her sham marriage

Meanwhile, Corrie veteran Eileen Derbyshire is long break from the show while her character Emily left Weatherfield in order to travel around South America, but ITV bosses have revealed that she has no plans to leave the show altogether. In a statement they said: "Eileen is currently taking an extended break from the show and had not given any indication that she doesn't plan to return in the future."
