James Corden and Thandie Newton scoop Critic's Choice Awards

Award season has officially kicked off, with the great and the good of the Hollywood industry coming together for the 2017 Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday night. Held at the iconic Barker Hangar in Los Angeles, the 22nd annual ceremony set the tone for next year's big winners in film and television. And flying the flag for Britain were James Corden and Thandie Newton.

TV chat show host James, 38, won the prize for Best Talk Show thanks to The Late Late Show With James Corden, while Crash star Thandie walked away with the Best Supporting Actress in Drama series gong for her role as Maeve Millay in Westworld.

James, famed for his star-studded Carpool Karaoke stints, later took to his Twitter page to share his thanks, writing: "So proud of this team! Of this show! Thank you critics who voted for us. It means a great deal to win Best talk show!" He later added: "Crazy list to be on. So proud of the team who work so hard on our show! X"

Meanwhile, Thandie found out the good news in the middle of her sleep, she took to Twitter to post: "Just woke to pee. No way!!?!!@CriticsChoice @WestworldHBO." The 44-year-old beat the likes of Constance Zimmer for UnREAL, Christine Baranski for The Good Wife and Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey for Game of Thrones for the award.

Although the pair were not in attendance, the likes of Kate Beckinsale and Lily Collins led the British talent at the lavish ceremony. Kate, 43, exuded heaps glamour in a plunging black ballgown with heavy embellishment. She was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in Love & Friendship, prior to award show the mother-of-one won the same gong at the London Evening Standard Film Awards.

Lily, 27, rocked a gothic-inspired look with a semi-sheer white lace gown, which highlighted her lean and slender frame perfectly. She was joined at the event by fellow British actor Hugh Grant, who was accompanied by his girlfriend Anna Eberstein.
