Julia Roberts will be starring in a new TV series based on Maria Semple's novel, Today Will Be Different.

The star will be playing the role of Eleanor Flood, a woman who is trying to have the best day ever despite constant setbacks getting in her way. Maria, who will also be writing the television adaptation, has revealed how much she is looking forward to seeing the Notting Hill actress in the lead role. In a statement, she said: "I'm giddy that Eleanor Flood will be brought to life by Julia Roberts and am elated to collaborate with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle and the team at Annapurna on this endeavour. This will be a fun ride!" Fans were quick to voice the support over the casting, with one writing: "Congrats!! I really hope everything goes well with the adaptation. I hope it's a major success as well." Another added: "Anything Julia stars in always turns out incredible. She's always been one of my fav actresses."

Julia will star in her first ever lead television role

The role may be Julia's first role as a lead star in a television show, but the star has previously taken on smaller roles in shows including Friends, Law and Order and Miami Vice, and most notably appeared in the Emmy award-winning television film The Normal Heart back in 2014. Julia isn't the only A-list actor to have taken on a role on the silver screen lately, with names including Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep trying their hand in television roles. Most notably, upcoming HBO miniseries' Big Little Lies will boast of an all-star cast, including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Alexander Skarsgard and Divergent actress Shailene Woodley.
