If you're a fan of Elle Woods and have been missing her witty banter you may want to keep your eye on a conversation Reese Witherspoon has started.

Speaking to E! News, the 40-year-old Oscar-winner said she thinks now is the perfect time to film Legally Blonde 3! "I do think it's a good time to do it. I think women need that kind of positivity right now," she said adding, "We've thought about it. I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea, and we'll do it."

As part of the interview she also discussed what it's like to be a female in the US right now.

"It’s a great privilege to be a woman in America,” she said. “We have many rights and freedoms that a lot of women don’t have all over the world. I try to celebrate that. I try to live that to its utmost, particularly the freedom of speech, being able to express myself, create shows like this to show how important women are in our world. That’s what I try to focus on."

This isn't the first time the Draper James designer has suggested she'd like there to be a third film in the Legally Blonde franchise. Back in 2015 she said it would be cool to see her character evolve.

"A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women," she said on Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe. "And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have [Elle] be a Supreme Court Justice or somebody who runs for office, like president."

Reese played Elle in the first film in 2001

It's also not the first time she's actively sought out roles that feature her playing strong women. At Glamour's 2015 Women of the Year Awards, she spoke passionately about her film choices.

"Every woman I've ever played is passionate and strong and flawed," she noted. "Like Elle Woods, I do not like to be underestimated... Because I believe ambition is not a dirty word. It's just believing in yourself and your abilities. Imagine this: What would happen if we were all brave enough to be a little bit more ambitious? I think the world would change."
