Jamie Dornan on why he'd never be friends with Christian Grey

Jamie Dornan has opened up about his role as Christian Grey in the 50 Shades series, and he makes one thing very clear: he has nothing in common with his steamy onscreen persona.

"He's not the sort of bloke I'd get along with," the 34-year-old actor recently told GQ Australia. "All my mates are easy going and quick to laugh – I wouldn’t imagine myself sat in a pub with him. I don't think he would be my type, when it comes to choosing mates."

Jamie also opened up about whether he's bothered by some of the negative feedback the racy project has received. "You go in knowing it's a divisive project and you just accept that -- it doesn't stand alone in that realm," he recalled. "But I don't blame people. I've got plenty of opinions about things I don't know a lot about, or that I don't give a chance -- it's just the nature of the beast. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it."

What's more, the Northern Irish actor told GQ he's quite happy with the success he's seen because of the franchise, especially since he's older. "I just don’t know how I would have handled myself [if I became famous earlier],” Jamie admitted. "You’re just far more in control of yourself in your 30s – and it’s helpful to have faced a bit of rejection, it gives you a better idea of yourself."

The actor has been happily married to wife Amelia since 2013

He went on to credit much of his level-headedness to his family and friends, including his wife Amelia and their two daughters Dulcie and Phoebe. "I've had the same group of mates since I was a child and my wife and my kids and all that stuff doesn't change," he explained. "And none of those people will let me change, unless they're not very good people."
