Although she and her co-star Ryan Gosling are dominating this year's award season with their incredible on-screen chemistry in La La Land, Emma Stone has revealed she felt sad when filming for the critically-acclaimed movie came to an end. The 28-year-old - who plays struggling actress Mia Dolan in the film - admitted it was hard to say goodbye to Ryan after spending almost five months together on set.

Speaking in a segment for ITV's This Morning on Thursday, the actress explained: "I was very sad when we were done because we had also rehearsed this for so long and we honestly spent like five months together… so it was very sad to close it out."

La La Land, which won seven awards, including best musical or comedy film, at this year's Golden Globes, tells the story of struggling actress Mia and a dedicated musician, Sebastian Wilder (Ryan) who are struggling to make ends meet before falling in love.

Discussing the challenges she faced with singing and dancing, Emma claimed it definitely brought out a "vulnerable" side to her. "It's vulnerable for sure to be singing," she said. "It's like a part of yourself that people don't necessarily always hear if you're not a karaoke master! But also, I had done Cabaret, the play, just before we shot this and that had given me a new relationship to singing."

Ryan, 36, added: "It was a challenge and we had a great team around us - wonderful coaches and people cheering us on and helping us along the way."

The stars, who also starred opposite each other in Crazy, Stupid, Love, are also tipped for Oscar glory and success at the BAFTAs. The movie has been nominated for 11 BAFTA Awards, including best film, best director and original screenplay.
