Simon Cowell came to the rescue of a Britain's Got Talent contestant who collapsed on stage during auditions in Birmingham. According to a new report, the TV judge rushed to help the hopeful singer while his fellow judges David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden all jumped to their feet. The show's presenters Ant and Dec also assisted while ITV's team of paramedics were called in.

The contestant has only been identified by his first name, Luke. The singer, in his twenties, was performing Frank Sinatra's My Way with his mum Mary, 52, when he fell to the floor. An audience member told The Sun: "His granddad died that day and combined with the stress of auditions, it really got to him. It was incredibly scary. Luke was singing with his mum and suddenly he just fell. All of the judges jumped to their feet, and Simon rushed on stage."

Kate McCann's Missing People Choir reduce judges to tears at audition

The witness added that Simon "thanked the audience for being compassionate". A Britain's Got Talent spokesperson confirmed that Luke, who was the last act of the night, had fainted but he was later given the all-clear and told to rest.

The nationwide auditions, which will be aired on ITV in the spring, have certainly been making headlines this year. Last week it was revealed that the Missing People Choir auditioned. The choir, which counts Madeleine McCann's mother Kate as their ambassador, stunned the celebrity judges with their heartbreaking performance of I Miss You. The poignant song includes the lyrics: "I never thought I'd be without you. I always thought you'd be here safe with me. Maybe tomorrow I'll wake up to find you."

The Sun reported that Kate did not take part in the auditions but she could become more involved if the group progresses to the live shows. In May, it will mark ten years since her daughter Maddie went missing in Portugal.
