Here's Everything You Need to Know About the BAFTAs

Awards season is now in full swing, and now it's time for the BAFTAs, the annual celebration of achievement in British and international cinema. The great and the good of the acting industry will come together to see which accolades are handed out for the best feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality screened at British cinemas in 2016.

Where and when? The 70th British Academy Film Awards will be held on Sunday 12th February at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The BAFTAs will be returning to the iconic venue for the first time since 1997 as The Royal Opera House which has hosted the awards since 2008 is being refurbished this year. The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC1 and iPlayer from 9pm and a special red-carpet show is expected to stream on Facebook between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Stephen Fry will return as host at this year's BAFTAs

Who's hosting? Veteran presenter Stephen Fry will return as host for the 12th year in a row. The 59-year-old will take to the stage once again despite the social media backlash he received last year after calling costume designer winner Jenny Beavan a "bag lady".

Special guestsAs well as the Hollywood stars, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been confirmed to attend the star-studded award show. The Duke will also be on hand present the Fellowship, which is awarded annually at the ceremony, and is the highest accolade bestowed by the Academy to an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, television or games. Past recipients include Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine, Judi Dench and Helen Mirren.

The FellowshipMel Brooks has been named this year’s recipient of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ Fellowship. "I am not overwhelmed, but I am definitely whelmed by this singular honour," said Mel. "To be included among such iconic talents is absolutely humbling. In choosing me for the 2017 Fellowship I think that BAFTA has made a strangely surprising yet ultimately wise decision."
