Carrie Fisher fans will be delighted to see the late Hollywood star return in the third series of Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe, which starts on Tuesday. Although viewers will have to wait till the sixth and final episode to see Carrie's final appearance, the show's stars Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney - who are also the creators - have opened up about what it was like to work with the iconic actress, who died at the age of 60 on December 27, four days after suffering a cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

"I was super-aware of her in Star Wars as Leia - the ultimate young girl icon," Sharon told Radio Times. "But I wasn't as aware of her wit and writing as I should have been, and it's been wonderful to find all that out." She added: "She had a heart attack on the plane after she'd wrapped with us. It was so raw because we'd just seen her, and she was a wonderful person, just a great craic." When asked whether this series would feature a tribute to Carrie, writer Sharon remarked: "Of course! The whole thing is a tribute to her. It was an honour to have had her in the show at all, but now it's also a responsibility to do her proud."

Rob explained how he was grateful to have to chance to star alongside Carrie, who plays his on-screen mother. "The stuff she does in this series is quite poignant," he added. "Thank God we were cognisant of the privilege of having her with us, so we always made sure we put our best foot forward whenever we wrote for her." Catastrophe follows an Irish woman (Sharon) and an American man (Rob) who have a child after a one-night stand in London, and their struggles as they remain in a committed relationship. The third series of the hit comedy picks up from the aftermath of Sharon's infidelity and will see Carrie play the mother of Rob's character, Rob Norris.
