The first image of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins has been released! The Devil Wears Prada star is filling Julie Andrews' shoes as everyone's favourite nanny for the new sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. In the photo, Emily is wearing a blue frock coat and purple hat while carrying Mary Poppins' iconic carpet bag, and fans have already been quick to praise the actress's look. "Practically perfect in every way", one person tweeted. Another added: "And just like that, I was sold on Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins."

The sequel will follow Mary as she returns to the Banks family, but this time to take care of a grown up Michael's three children. The official synopsis reads: "In the story, Michael and Jane are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen, living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."

The film has a star-studded cast which includes Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Julie Walters among others. Meryl will be playing the role of 'Topsy', Mary's "eccentric cousin". Dick Van Dyke, who appeared in the original film back in 1964, will also be making an appearance. He told Entertainment Tonight: "I'll be going to London in the spring to do my role, and I get to do a little song and dance number. I think I just have the one scene and a little song and dance in it."
