After six seasons, New Girl's fan favourite character Schmidt has finally revealed his first name – and it's certain to cause problems with his best friends in future episodes! After finding out that he can't use the name 'The Schmidt Charitable Trust' for his new foundation, Cece gives Max Greenfield's character the idea to use his first name for it instead. In a hilarious moment, Schmidt then has a meeting with his best friend Winston where he reveals he wants to use his first name again – which also happens to be Winston.

(Winston) Schmidt tells other Winston: "I'm going to start using my first name again," Winston reacts with terror, replying: "Schmidt. I think that is a very bad idea... Don't do this Schmidt. Ain't nothing but pain down that road." Schmidt concludes the conversation by saying: "I have no choice! When I was born my parents gave me a name. It was the name I was called for most of my life and now I want my name back," before sliding a desk plague across the table which reads "Winston Schmidt."

Fans reacted hilariously to the show's twist, with one writing: "Schmidt revealing that his name is Winston is the biggest plot twist of all time." Another added: "I wonder how long the writers were planning this? Was this always in the plans, or just recently decided? Doesn't matter, this is going to be great fun on the show." Fox released a press release following the episode to confirm that Schmidt's full name is in fact 'Winston Saint-Marie Schmidt'.
