Adam Thomas has taken to Twitter to set the record straight following reports that he is leaving Emmerdale. The 28-year-old actor was said to be quitting the ITV soap after eight years playing Adam Barton in order to pursue his own TV show. But he seemed to suggest to his social media followers that not everything is as it seems. "Don't believe everything you read people," he wrote on Thursday morning, before adding: "In other news who wants to be a guest on my new show," followed by a series of laughing emojis.

Adam, whose older brother Ryan Thomas used to appear on rival soap Coronation Street, joined the Dales in 2009, and has been at the centre of a number of dramatic storylines. His character was seen suffering a breakdown following the death of the man he believed to be his biological father, and coping with the death of his sister, as well as mistakenly believing he had fathered a child.

Away from the soap, Ryan proved a big hit with viewers when he appeared on the 2016 series of I'm A Celebrity. The actor, who is a father to two-year-old son Teddy, managed to reach the final and finished in third place behind winner Scarlett Moffatt and comedian Joel Dommett. After leaving the jungle, he insisted he had no plans to leave Emmerdale. Asked in December about rumours he was quitting the soap to crack Hollywood, he replied: "No, I'm not! Sorry, no! I love Emmerdale, I really love Emmerdale."
