The season four finale of Orange is the New Black left viewers with a major cliff hanger that saw Daya pointing a gun at a correctional officer as the prisoners rioted. Now, Netflix has released a clip of the first episode of season five along with several promo photos of the upcoming series, which will take place in real time over the course of three days.

Season four ended with Dana pointing a gun at Humphrey

The clip begins where season four left off with Dana holding a gun at the sadistic guard, Humphrey, while her fellow inmates encourage her to pull the trigger. Meanwhile, Piper and Alex are walking together, with Piper saying: "We're laying low, and we're staying out of trouble," to which Alex responds: "You're right. We see trouble, we turn away. We are out of the business." Piper then sees the group of women and begins speculating, saying: "This is a real riot! If this is a real riot do you think this is a step forwards or backwards for equality?" before the pair run the other way. The clip ends with the sound of a bullet being fired, although it isn't clear who was shot.

Season five will take place over three days

The new photos of series five show fan favourite characters including Red, Taystee and Crazy Eyes. The official synopsis of season five reads: "An explosive riot sparked by Poussey's untimely death combined with the rage and grief felt by the inmates quickly escalated into utter chaos. In the final moments, it all comes to a head with a determined Daya now in possession of a gun - and it becomes clear that, no matter what the outcome, life at Litchfield will never be the same. Picking up right where we left off, season five takes you back to that contentious moment in the prison's halls where decisions made will forever affect those inside, and outside the gates."
