After being thrown together by chance, the pair find they make the perfect investigative pair, and use their unique skills to help bring down criminals. Set in London, not only does the show do a great job of demonstrating the less glamourous side of the city and the struggle for millennials beginning a career in the big smoke, the crime cases are truly engaging.
No Offence
This Channel 4 show follows a detective in the Greater Manchester Police, Dinah Kowalska, who realises that young women with Down's syndrome are going missing throughout the city. Season one is a race against time to find the culprit, while season two focuses on Manchester's underworld crime world. The show has received several accolades and has several breakout performances, most notably by Joanna Scanlan, who plays the no-nonsense boss DI Vivienne Deering.
Happy Valley
The BBC show sees former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire as Catherine Cawood, a sergeant with a devastating past which comes back to haunt her when her daughter's rapist, Tommy Le Royce (James Norton) is released from prison. The show, which is set in West Yorkshire, has an amazingly realised ensemble of characters, and was awarded Best Drama Series at the BAFTA Television Awards.
Luther
Idris Elba stars in this popular show about genius inspector, John Luther, who resorts to any means necessary to find his culprits. The show also introduces a truly compelling friendship between John and Alice, a psychopath who becomes interested in him after he is unable to prove that she murdered her parents. With four seasons, each better than the last, this is a must-watch crime drama.
