She has forged out a hugely successful career as a top TV journalist. But before she found her way into breakfast broadcasting, Susanna Reid enjoyed a short spell as a child actor. On Thursday's episode of Good Morning Britain she reflected on her short acting career after reuniting with former co-star Dame Harriet Walter. The two ladies had worked together in a 1985 episode of The Price, in which Susanna, then 15, starred as Harriet's on-screen daughter.

"Can I take you back to that time in the early 1980s when you and I worked together? It makes me a bit emotional to talk about it because you were my mum!" Susanna admitted, to which Dame Harriet quipped: "I'd be your granny now!" Susanna, 46, then asked: "Was I a complete pain in the backside to work with?" "No, you were a compete saving grace," the 66-year-old actress reassured her. "I often think this. You know, Susanna was very mature and I was very childish, so we kind of met in the middle! Like I was your older sister really."

Meanwhile, it was revealed this week that Susanna's on-screen partnership with Piers Morgan has led to a huge rise in Good Morning Britain's ratings. The show now regularly attracts an audience of over one million viewers, with figures up 17 per cent over the past 12 months. The gap between GMB and BBC Breakfast is now the closest it has been in eight years - but the BBC show is still the one to beat, boasting a 38 per cent viewing share.
