Tom Holland was the envy of actors his age when he landed the coveted role of Spider-Man. The 20-year-old received his big break in 2015, but as it turns out, Tom discovered he was the new Spider-Man at the same time as the rest of the world. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show, Tom revealed that he found out the news via Instagram. "I basically had been auditioning for about five months and after my final audition they said, 'You'll find out tomorrow.' Fast forward six weeks I was still waiting, still waiting, then one day Marvel just posted on their Instagram, 'Go to our website to find out who Spider-Man is.' And that's it, I just found out online!" said Tom. "They didn't call me up or anything."

He added: "I ran downstairs, I was going ballistic. My poor dog Tessa was terrified. And my brother Harry, who's pretty savvy with technology, was like, 'Dude, they've probably been hacked, bro. They would call you. They would let you know.' So I called my agents and they were like, 'This is amazing.' And then Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios president) finally rang me and said, 'I've got some great news, you're gonna be Spider-Man.' And I was like, 'I know Kevin. You put it on Instagram.' Like I'm 20, do you really think I'm not going to find it?"

Tom, who has always been a "huge fan" of Spider-Man, has portrayed the role in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to be released in July. In total, the actor has a six-picture deal with Marvel Studios for three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies.

Tom also revealed that he contemplated moving to Los Angeles, but will remain in his hometown London where he has just bought his first apartment. He revealed that his mum found the two-bedroom property, which is conveniently located down the street from her. "You could literally throw a stone from my house," laughed Tom. "It's like down the street from where I live. I was planning to move out to LA but now I'm just moving five minutes away from my mum."
