Sam Taylor-Johnson has opened up about the difficulties of making the first Fifty Shades of Grey film, admitting that she has no plans to ever watch the sequels. The director famously clashed with the erotic novel's author, E.L. James, on the set of the film, and has now spoken about their relationship. Chatting to The Sunday Times, she said: "I like everyone, and I get really confused when they don't like me. I was so confused by E.L. James, I don't understand when I can't navigate a person, when there's no synergy."

Sam has "zero interest" in the sequels

Sam, who turned down the opportunity to direct the sequel to the first Fifty Shades film, continued: "I'm not going to ever watch [the sequels]. I have literally zero interest. I can never say I regret it because that would just finish me off. With the benefit of hindsight, would I go through it again? Of course I wouldn't. I'd be mad!" Sam has previously spoken about ther fractured relationship with the author, telling the Hollywood Reporter: "We'd often clash and have to find a way to work through that to get to some sort of resolution. She would be the first to say as well that it was not easy. It was not easy. But we got there. I think both of us felt it was an incredibly painful process."

Sam originally announced that she wouldn't be returning to the franchise back in 2015. In a statement, she said: "While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three. Directing Fifty Shades of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie."
