There are just a few days left until Game of Thrones season seven finally appears on our screens, and HBO have released several new photos to promote the first episode of the series, Dragonstone. The new eight photos feature several of our favourite characters, including Daenerys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister and Brienne of Tarth.

Although the storylines have been kept closely under wraps, HBO has already given brief descriptions for the first three episodes. The synopsis of episode one reads: "Jon (Kit Harington) organizes the defence of the North. Cersei (Lena Headey) tries to even the odds. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) comes home." Episode two, which is titled Stormborn, read: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros," and episode three, titled The Queen's Justice, reads: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) holds court. Cersei (Lena Headey) returns a gift. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) learns from his mistakes."

Pod and Brienne

Brienne of Tarth is back in the North with her trusted squire, Podrick Payne. Although it isn't entirely clear whether the pair are back at Winterfell, Castle Black or somewhere else entirely, what is clear is that Brienne is still taking Pod's training very seriously, as the pair appear to be sparring with each other in the courtyard.

Edd Tollett

The Night's Watch storyline took a back seat in season six after Jon's departure, but it looks like we are revisiting Castle Black and the Wall with Jon's friend Edd acting as the Lord Commander in his place. It looks like Bran and Meera will make their way to the castle this season – so could this be a snap of the Night's Watch greeting them?

Lyanna Mormont

Everyone's favourite character, Lyanna Mormont, is back and, from this photo, she is clearly as feisty as ever. The runaway star of season six was Jon's most outspoken supporter, and she was crucial for rallying the rest of the North to the Stark cause. In the photo, she seems to be doing what she does best: talking sense to a bunch of fully grown adults! Slay Queen, slay!

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys can be seen approaching the throne at Dragonstone, which must have huge meaning as it was her House's seat. However, it still isn't the seat she truly wants: the Iron Throne. It looks like Daenerys isn't going to waste any time planning her attack on King's Landing now that she has finally arrived in Westeros, and her new Winter clothes definitely reflect that!

Meera Reed

Meera is most definitely at Castle Black after however long she has spent helping Bran across the freezing wasteland of Beyond the Wall. Honestly, we're not at all surprised that she looks slightly worse for wear in this photo! She also appears to be with Edd and a few other members of the Night's Watch. We hope Bran made it there too!

King's Landing

A man can be seen painting a huge map of Westeros, but what for? For plotting or strategy? So that Cersei can look at the Seven Kingdoms that she currently rules from the comfort of her own castle? Either way, it looks beautiful!

Cersei Lannister

Cersei is doing what she does best: drinking wine while rocking that pixie cut. The new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms seems to be deep in thought, and her twin brother/lover Jaime can be seen in the background (probably disagreeing with her actions on a moral front but doing nothing to stop her).
