August 13, 2018

The summer holidays are in full swing, and with six school-free weeks to fill, parents will know how hard it can be to find enough activities to keep children entertained. Going to watch a movie together is an activity that all the family will enjoy, and you can now turn it into a memorable day out with Luna Kids Cinema – the UK's first open air cinema designed for kids of all ages. You and your kids will be able to enjoy a number of family-friendly films in some unique UK’s settings, including the historic Hampton Court Palace in London and the beautiful Heaton Park in Manchester. And while little ones will love last year’s hits such as Coco and Paddington 2, there's also the opportunity to introduce them to other incredible classics, including Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Toy Story. Here are just a few of our faves…

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

While it's likely many children will already have been introduced to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, what better way to fully immerse yourself into the story than by watching the first film in the beautiful gardens of Priory Park. The first adaptation of J.K Rowling's record-breaking novels sees Harry discovering that he is a wizard and making his first foray into the wizarding world, starting school at Hogwarts and learning more about the dramatic events that led to him being left on the doorsteps of his aunt and uncle at Privet Drive. A must-see for children and parents alike.

Paddington 2

See the adventures of Paddington on the big screen once more, as the 2017 movie is screened at Priory Park and Heaton Park. This family film, which stars Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw and Hugh Bonneville, follows Paddington now he has settled into life with the Brown family, and strives to find the perfect gift for his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday only for trouble to ensue. Good, family fun!

The Greatest Showman Sing-Along

It may have only been released a few months ago, but this Hugh Jackman movie is already a classic. Fans of the film can belt out the hit songs like This is Me and A Million Dreams at these sing-along screenings; there's sure to be a great atmosphere that you won't want to miss out on. You'll find screenings at Heaton Park and Tatton Park.

Frozen

A modern classic, you'd be hard-pushed to find a child who hasn't seen or fallen in love with the story of the newly-crowned Queen Elsa, whose icy powers have accidentally trapped her kingdom in eternal winter. Get comfortable and enjoy the snowy scenes al fresco during the British summertime, and we bet you won't be able to join in with a rousing rendition of Let it Go!

The Lion King

With a live-action remake in the works, there's no better time to introduce your children to The Lion King, and the adventures of the young lion Simba. This Disney classic is almost 25 years old but still just as good as ever and will be one that all the family can enjoy in the beautiful settings of Priory Park or Heaton Park.
