The HELLO! office has been buzzing since James Corden and Ruth Jones confirmed that they had written one last-ever Christmas special for the hugely popular sitcom Gavin and Stacey, which originally ended in 2010, but returned for a Christmas special in 2019.
We couldn't be more excited to see where the finale takes us, but will it answer our many, many questions about the lives of our beloved characters? Here are just some of the questions we'd love to see answered in the Christmas special...
Are Smithy and Nessa getting married?
Gavin and Stacey's respective best friends Smithy and Nessa had perhaps the most complicated relationship on the show. While the pair used to despite one another, by the 2019 Christmas special they have become close friends, regular lovers (until Smithy got his new girlfriend, Sonia), and are excellent co-parents to their son, Neil, the Baby. Fans were shocked when the Christmas special saw Nessa get down on one knee to propose to Smithy before ending on a major cliffhanger before we found out Smithy's answer. So will they have a happily ever after? We hope so!
How is Neil, the baby?
Like it or not, Neil the baby will have grown up five whole years since we last saw him, and so the big question is - how is he? Is he mostly like Smithy, or like Nessa? Oscar Hartland is now a guitarist for Redwood City - and is all grown up! Will he be reprising his role, or will they case someone new? He, for one, is definitely up for it. Chatting to the Daily Mail, he said: "I was quite chubby and I looked a bit like Smithy and Nessa and it helped that I was Neil when I was a baby. I'd love to do it again - I'm ready if they are."
Will Bryn ever find love?
Bryn is a confirmed bachelor, but will the Sex and the City-loving, worldwide web-surfing, singing Welshman ever find love himself? We know he's very content with his own family life, but we would love to be introduced to a character who managed to pin him down in the upcoming Christmas special!
Did Dawn and Pete finally divorce?
We loved Dawn and Pete's antics on the show - but that doesn't mean that they were a match made in heaven. Despite renewing their vows, the pair still got it wrong when Peter arranged a frankly insane wedding ring for himself, putting him back into the dog house as far as Dawn was concerned. Another nine years later - surely this pair have had enough of one another? We'd also love to see their dating profiles, so make it happy Ruth and James!
What happened on the fishing trip?
Will we ever find out what went on between Bryn and his nephew Jason on that famous fishing trip? The story disgusted Dave, caused a great deal of tension between Jason and Bryn, but was still totally legal (although Bryn had to check). All we know is that it was freezing cold, but aside from that we have no idea what really went down. Maybe now we'll finally find out!
Is Sonia still in the picture?
Smithy was planning to propose to his girlfriend Smithy as her Christmas present, but things went awry when Sonia didn't click with his found family and ended up leaving Wales early to head back to her grandparents house for the rest of the day, indicating that she wasn't ready to prioritise Smithy, his son Neil or the new gang. The two families didn't think too much of Sonia, especially when she made fun of Smithy's weight - but will she still be in the picture in the new special?
