Phil Daniels will be joining the cast ofCall the Midwife on Sunday night as George – so before you snuggle up for another episode of everyone's favourite period drama, find out everything you need to know about the prolific actor, from his acting career to his family life…

What has Phil Daniels appeared in?

Phil has dozens of television shows under his belt, but is perhaps best known for playing Grandad Trotter in the Only Fools and Horses prequel, Rock & Chips, Kevin Wicks in EastEnders and Jimmy Cooper in Quadrophenia. He also starred in the music video for Parklife by Blur!

What is his role in Call the Midwife?

In the upcoming episode of Call the Midwife Phil plays George, a 60-year-old man who lives on a street marked for demolition, but doesn't want to leave as it means that he will be separated from his beloved pigeon, Dot. We think this one might be a bit of a heartbreaker!

In the rest of the episode, Sister Julienne volunteers Nonnatus House to take part in a new training programme that will help doctors with an obstetrics diploma, and Dr Turner and Sister Julienne hope that it will remind the council of the importance of Nonnatus House to the community. The group of young doctors cause a lot of excitement, but end up causing Sister Julienne to lose her temper.

What is Phil Daniels' family life?

Phil was in a long-term relationship with record industry associate Jan Stevens, who tragically died from pancreatic cancer in 2012. The couple share one daughter, Ella. Speaking to The Guardian about his relationship with his daughter, he said: "She works in marketing in the City and she’s proud of me and a little impressed by my career, but she wouldn't show it. I still see her quite a lot. It was tough for her when her mum died. She was only 21 or 22 and to watch her mum be ill and die was not nice. We’ve been very close since then, as that’s all we’ve got – each other. There are no brothers or sisters. She’s done very well and got on with her life, and that’s what you’ve got to do, I’m afraid."
