Kevin McCloud has seen some incredible houses created on Grand Designs, but has previously revealed that plenty of participants have made the same mistake while seeing their dream homes come to life.

Chatting to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning back in 2017, Kevin said: "It's not about the taste - my taste is not the same as yours - what matters to me is people doing it well.

"I think many people - it's not dreaming big - but they build big. People do this, people build really big homes and then discover they have no storage and the space they have is empty volume. It's more space to heat, it's not useable, it doesn't give you connection."

He added that while he tends to remain impartial rather than give the participants' advice, he will occasionally make suggestions no how they can improve their designs when the cameras are off. He said: "Off-camera I'm saying, 'Why don't you try this?' but we don't go in and tell people how to do it, but I do try and offer some sort of steering."

Kevin opened up about the popular show

The TV personality previously revealed that the stress of building a home has caused two or three people to suffer from heart attacks while filming. He told Stuff: "Each of those men was wanting to build some kind of mausoleum to himself. And each time they regretted it, saying, 'What really matters is my family, my children'. There’s always been that remorse."

Although we're very curious about the dad-of-four's own home, we won't be seeing it any time soon as he told the Daily Mail back in 2019: "I don’t think I’m a celebrity. If I welcomed people into my lovely home every week in the pages of a magazine they’d soon see how incredibly dull it is.

"It’s important to maintain a bit of mystique. The more of your private life you put into the public domain, the smaller your private life becomes."
