While the star has kept her family life fairly private, she has revealed her parents were both very excited to watch her take part in DOI.

Faye, who is partnered with skating professional Hamish Gaman, told Bradford Zone: "My mum screamed when I told her and I said you’re more excited than when I got a job in the West End and she said yes but this is your time now when you get to be you. You’re not hiding behind a character, you learn a skill, you get to do things that you love too.

Faye, who was 14 at the time of the diagnosis, told The Express: "Our lives were taken over by hospitals and chemotherapy. My parents tried to protect me from it as much as possible but my mum was always at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital staying with Jack and my dad wanted to be there all the time too."

She also recalled to The Sun: "I remember him coming home one day and he pulled a clump of his hair out and put it on my bed. That memory always makes me cry.

"They had a bed for him at our school because he was so tired from his medication that he kept falling asleep. It was so heartbreaking and it made me really protective of him." Jack, now 28, has been in remission since the age of 18.

The Coronation Street star is dating Joe Davies

Faye is in a relationship with Barry’s Bootcamp trainer Joe Davies, going public with their romance in December 2019. She was previously engaged to Pop Idol star Gareth Gates, but their seven-year on-off relationship ended in August 2019.

Showing her support for her DOI journey, Joe shared a post on Instagram encouraging fans to vote for Faye. "She set the bar!! Time to get your votes in...@faye_brookes @hamishgaman #teamfaymish," he wrote.

The couple spent plenty of time together amid the first coronavirus lockdown, with the Coronation Street actress even believed to have isolated at Joe's parents' seaside home. However, Faye and Joe are now thought to be living together in Manchester.
