Iconic sitcom Frasier could be set for a reboot on new streaming platform, Paramount Plus.

According to TV Line, the hit 90s comedy, featuring Kelsey Grammer as titular character Dr. Frasier Crane, is set to be revived with its original stars for a brand new series – but fans have had a surprising reaction to the news.

Despite the sitcom - which also starred David Hyde Pierce and the late John Mahoney - being one of the most successful of all time (the NBC sitcom won a whopping 37 Emmy Awards during its 11-year run), some fans aren't particularly happy with the news.

Frasier ran from 1993 until 2004

One person took to Twitter to express their view: "When I see reboots, I see corporations afraid to produce challenging new content and relying on formulas to squeeze every last penny out of tired ideas."

Another added: "I'd rather see all the original episodes cleaned up and converted to 4k if it's possible." While a third said: "The writing the last couple of years of Frasier I found dull. I'm not expecting much with a reboot."

The sitcom was hugely successful - winning 37 Emmy Awards

However, a number of other TV-lovers welcomed the revival news. "My mom and I have been rewatching the show for months now... definitely the wittiest, smartest show ever written. Still finding new jokes that went over my head when I was too young to get it. Sad John Mahoney won't get to be a part of it though."

Another tweeted: "Frasier is such an iconic show, and so precious to me that a revival makes me nervous. Although, I'd love to see Daphne and Niles with their children!"

The rumours surrounding a reboot series have been circling for a few years. Back in 2018, star of the show Peri Gilpin, who played the Crane family friend and Frasier's co-worker at the radio station, Roz, told Variety: "If there was a way that everyone agreed on — not me, but David Lee and Peter Casey and Kelsey and Jimmy Burrows and all of those guys — and everybody thought it was a good idea, then yeah. Hell, yeah!"
