The last few minutes saw DC 'Med' Kharim (played by Taheen Modak) check out a property in Morecombe that had been sold way over its value. Sensing something suspicious, the detective walked into the property only to be greeted by unfriendly workers. On his way out, he was brutally hit by a car – only for the car to reverse back over him afterwards.
Fans were shocked at the dramatic cliffhanger and took to social media after the episode aired. One person wrote: "Please tell me I'm not the only one traumatised by the last five minutes of #TheBay? Sat on the sofa going 'Please don't reverse, don't reverse'. Fantastic programme! Can't wait for next week now."
A second echoed this, tweeting: "Tonight's episode of #TheBay was amazing!! Had me in tears at the end though, poor Med. Really gripping series though, I love it!"

Will Med make it?
A third commented: "I can never forgive them for what they did to #Med #TheBay Never!," while a fourth said: "The end of #thebay was beyond BRUTAL. What a way to go."
It's not yet known whether Med survives, so viewers will have to wait until next week to find out his fate. However, if you can't wait that long the entire series is available to binge in full on the ITV Hub.
Elsewhere in the episode, Lisa came to blows with her mother after she discovered that her mum had offered her ex-partner money to disappear. The finances of Stephen's brother Mark and his wife also came to light – making him a potential lead in the murder case, and Stephen's private life, away from his marriage, was thrown into question.
